STP and IJA Aquafeed Plant 2,000 Mangroves to Advance Deforestation-Free Commitment in North Sumatra

Serdang Bedagai, Indonesia, July 29, 2026 - PT Suri Tani Pemuka (STP), together with PT Indojaya Agrinusa (IJA) Aquafeed Unit, a JAPFA subsidiary operating in aquaculture, planted 2,000 mangrove seedlings at the Mangrove Tourism Beach (Kampoeng Nipah) in Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra. The planting is part of the companies’ commitment to supporting deforestation-free efforts through coastal ecosystem protection, carbon absorption, and the preservation of habitats for a wide range of marine life.

The initiative puts the companies’ Deforestation-Free Policy into practice while advancing their work to lower their carbon footprint. As part of its environmental responsibility, the company runs water conservation and coastal ecosystem preservation programs, with mangrove planting at the core.

The activity was carried out alongside the Muara Baimbai Mangrove Conservation Group, with support from the Environmental Agency, the Marine and Fisheries Agency, and local district authorities. The collaboration reflects the synergy among industry, government, and community in protecting coastal ecosystems through lower emissions, biodiversity conservation, and the empowerment of local communities.

As companies in the aquaculture sector, STP and IJA Aquafeed are committed to preventing deforestation and cutting greenhouse gas emissions through more sustainable operations. That commitment takes concrete form in the use of renewable energy and electric material-handling equipment that replaces diesel-powered machinery, part of the effort to reduce emissions at the IJA Aquafeed Medan plant. The same drive toward sustainable feed production is reflected in IJA Aquafeed’s ASC Feed certification.

“For us, supporting deforestation-free practices is a journey we continue to pursue,” said Satya Graha, Aquafeed Business Partner at Indojaya Agrinusa. “We realize it not only through greener operations and lower emissions, but also through ecosystem preservation and the empowerment of communities around our operating areas. We believe sustainability can only be achieved through consistent collaboration among industry, government, and local communities.”

The action in Serdang Bedagai continues STP’s green commitment already underway on a national scale. The company has steadily supported deforestation-free efforts by planting more than 30,000 trees across its operating areas, including Purwakarta, Gresik, Banyuwangi, Singaraja, and Barru. That same spirit was on display in the planting of 3,000 mangroves and release of 100 sea turtle hatchlings at Cacalan Beach, Banyuwangi, and in the company’s green commitment marked by mangrove planting on its 36th anniversary. These initiatives are part of the company’s commitment to delivering a positive impact on the environment and society through more responsible and sustainable operations.
